Škoda has won a contract to supply the traction motors for 40 new metro trains being built for the Chinese city of Suzhou.

The new trains, which are being manufacture by CSR Nanjing Puzhen, will go into operation on Suzhou’s Line 4 between 2015 and 2016.

This latest $US 55.8 million order is the third contract to be awarded to the Škoda Kingway Electric joint venture in relation to Suzhou metro rolling stock.

Škoda and Jiangsu Kingway Transportation have already delivered equipment for two separate orders totalling 40 five-car metro trainsets for Line 2.

Škoda’s Jaromír Hájek said the new order would create some technical challenges, with the Line 4 trains running in six-car configurations.
