SBB has confirmed that its eight new ETR 610 high-speed trains will enter passenger service from the December timetable change.

Switzerland’s national rail operator has said that the new tilting trains will come into service from December 14, replacing the last remaining ETR 470 units.

Testing was due to start last month in Germany.

SBB had announced that Stadler is to build 29 new transalpine trains to operate on the Gotthard railway between Switzerland and Italy.

The EC 250, which will have a maximum operating speed of 249 km/h, will replace the ICN and ETR 610 sets gradually as it is introduced from 2019.
