Mitsui Rail Capital Europe (MRCE) has received the first of 20 new Vectron AC locomotives from Siemens.

MRCE, a subsidiary of the Japanese Mitsui & Co, ordered the new locomotives to operate cross-border passenger services between either Germany and Austria or between Germany, Austria and Hungary.

Masayoshi Hosoya, chief executive of MRCE, said: “We are happy to have again concluded an agreement with Siemens for Vectron locomotives.

“As the locomotives delivered up to  now fulfil our expectations, we again decided to purchase Vectron.”

The vehicles will have maximum power of 6,400 kW and a top speed of 200 km/h.

The rolling stock leasing company (ROSCO) already has a fleet of 35 Vectron units.
