Stadler and Ansaldo STS have won a contract to build the first phase of a 110-kilometre light rail system in the Danish city of Aarhus.

The turnkey contract includes construction of the line and its associated systems, and the supply of its trams.

Aarhus hopes to welcome passengers onto the system in 2017, coinciding with Aarhus being awarded the European Capital of Culture honour.

The initial 12-kilometre section will connect existing rail interchanges, Aarhus H station and Lystrup.
