A  Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), Ayesa and Louis Berger has been awarded a five-year project management and consultancy contract for line 2 of Panama’s emerging metro system.

The €23.5 million deal will see the consortium overseeing construction of the new 23-kilometre line.

In April, the city celebrated the opening of line 1, which was delivered by a consortium comprising FCC, Brazilian company Odebrecht and Alstom Transport.

With the completion of line 1, Panama became the first Central American city to build an underground metro system. The 13.7-kilometre line cost €1.5 billion and took three years to commission.
