The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has issued an invitation to tender for 124 broad-gauge electrical multiple units (EMU) for the city’s expanding metro network.

Valued at around Rs 10.3 billion, the contract would cover the design, manufacture, testing and commissioning of the new trains, which would be cascaded across lines 2, 3 and 4 of the Delhi Metro – all of which are being extended through the Phase III expansion programme.

Around 140 kilometres of new metro is being constructed as part of the Phase III project. Last month, the first section – a 3.23-kilometre underground line from Central Secretariat to Mandi House – was officially opened.

The tender documents stipulate that the EMUs will have to be compatible with the Bombardier-built RS2 stock

The deadline for submissions ends October 14.
