Morocco’s national rail operator, ONCF, has awarded a €30 million contract for the installation of a 712-kilometre GSM-R network.

A Thales/Huawei/Imet consortium will supply and install the radio-based communications network on conventional routes and the new high-speed corridor between Tangiers and Kenitra.

Over the next nine years, ONCF hopes to roll out GSM-R across the entire 1,923-kilometre network.

Thales and Huawei will deliver the GSM-R system, and Imet will complete the project’s civil works.
