Future rolling stock designs shortlisted

Ten creative solutions have been shortlisted in a competition to find designs to improve future rolling stock for the UK rail network.

A total of 48 entries have been whittled down to 10 by Future Railway, which, in association with the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), is running the competition to find innovative rolling stock design solutions.

Each of the shortlisted organisations will be given £75,000 to develop their designs. The updated concepts will then be judged in 2015, at which point five will go onto the next stage of the competition where each entrant could receive up to £750,000.

  • Nikken Sekkei, Japan;
  • Priestman Goode, London;
  • Seymour Powell, London;
  • Transport Design International (TDI), Worcestershire;
  • Andreas Vogler, Germany.
