Rising passenger numbers halts Portugal’s rail decline

Rail travel in Portugal have experienced a revival in 2014, with passenger figures rising by 2.4 per cent over the same period last year to 54 million.

Portugal’s state-owned rail operator Comboios de Portugal (CP) described the figures as a ‘reversal of the accelerated decline in passenger volumes and revenue’ in recent years.

As well as improving passenger numbers, revenue increased by €5 million to €102 million over the first half of 2013.
