Akiem orders Traxx DC locomotives

Rolling stock leasing company Akiem has ordered 10 Traxx DC locomotives to add to its existing fleet of Bombardier vehicles.

The agreement includes a firm order for 10 units and an option for 10 more. The contract has a total potential value of €65 million.

The locomotives, which will have a maximum operating speed of 140 km/h, will haul freight in Italy and Poland.

Fabien Rochefort, chief executive of Akiem, said: “This contract is a new step in Akiem’s European development, this fleet of pure DC3kV TRAXX is answering customers’ requirements for a cost efficient and reliable traction solution in both Polish and Italian domestic markets.”

The locomotives are scheduled to be delivered between the end of 2015 and start of 2016.
