Dynamic tram tests have been carried out along Nottingham’s Karlsruhe Friendship Bridge.

The first of a series of night-time trial runs has been completed on the Line 2 branch to Clifford, travelling over the new tram bridge at Nottingham station for the first time since it was slid into place last year. One of Nottingham’s new Citadis trams ran from the city centre, over the River Trent to Wilford on August 22.

Christian Saussier, Alstom turnkey operations manager, said: “This first test marked a significant moment for the project and will lay the foundations for more extensive night time trials over the coming weeks that will see more trams under test on the Line 2 Clifton from Nottingham Station to Wilford.

“Once these are complete, we will then commence daytime testing when people will find it easier to enjoy the sight of trams travelling over the railway station using one of the city’s most iconic new landmarks, the Karlsruhe Friendship Bridge.”

The extension was due to open in December but complications in its construction have pushed the start date back to early 2015. However, the new tram fleet will start to go into operation on August 26 when a more intensive service timetable is introduced on Line 1.
