New Flexity tram arrives in Basel

Basel’s public transport operator, BVB, has accepted delivery of its first new Flexity tram from Bombardier.

The operator is investing CHF 255 million in 61 new low-floor trams – an order it describes as the largest vehicle procurement in the organisation’s 119-year history.

Having arrived at BVB’s Wiesenplatz depot on September 4, the tram will now begin testing and commissioning.

Bombardier is expected to deliver a second seven-car vehicle in the autumn. From 2017, BVB will start receiving the first five-car trams.

Once the order is completed, Basel will operate an entire fleet of modern vehicles, retaining just a handful of the older trams as spares to support the mixed Flexity and Combino fleet during major public events.
