The UAE’s Armed Forces has pledged to protect stations and depots across the Etihad Rail network.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Etihad Rail’s acting chief executive Faris Saif Al Mazrouei and Major General Staff Pilot Ishaq Al Blooshi, the UAE Armed Forces will provide security services to key sites across the 1,200-kilometre network in return for rail links to five key military logistics centers.
Etihad Rail said it was working on a similar MoU with the UAE Ministry of Interior for the protection of the track infrastructure itself.
The Etihad Rail network, which will cost around €8.4 billion, will link passengers and freight in the UAE with Saudi Arabia in the east and Oman in the west.
