DC Streetcar begins trial operation

Washington DC’s new tram system has begun operating a trial service without passengers ahead of the the line’s full commissioning.

The 3.9-kilometre H/Benning line is the first of a planned 60-kilometre light rail network for the city and its surrounding communities.

The first new light rail vehicle (LRV) arrived in Washington in autumn 2013. Five trams have been delivered so far.

The DC Streetcar project is returning trams to Washington for the first time in over 50 years.
