An Indra/Alstom consortium is to install the safety systems in 12 tunnels along the Madrid-Asturias high-speed line – including what will be Spain’s second longest, the Pajares tunnel.
Alstom will supply the civil and security systems for the tunnels along a 44-kilometre route, including ventilation and firefighting systems, fire doors, emergency radio and gas detection.
Once complete, the Pajares line will shorten the distance between Castile and León by 33 kilometres.
The link will be dual-gauge, supporting both standard gauge high-speed trains and Iberian gauge services.
Th €36 million contract, which was awarded by infrastructure manager Adif, includes two years maintenance and an emergency response service.
