China’s Hubei province has signed a letter of intent with Keolis for the operation of a new high-speed commuter rail network connecting Wuhan with eight satellite cities.
Keolis, a subsidiary of France’s national rail carrier SNCF, will operate the six-line system from 2016, when it is due to open.
In March this year, Keolis signed an agreement with Shanghai Metro for the joint operation of metro services in China and across Asia.
Keolis already operates high-speed rail services in south-east England and earlier this year took over the operation of commuter rail services in Boston, USA.
In a statement, Keolis said: “The Province of Hubei has called upon the group’s expertise in order to successfully integrate the new commuter trains into the existing urban transport network, within a multi-modal transport framework.”
