Taiwan Railways Administration has ordered a further four TEMU2000 ‘Puyuma Express’ tilting train sets.

Nippon Sharyo, which is based in the Japanese city of Nagoya, and Sumitomo Corporation will supply four additional four-car trains in a 3.3 billion yen (€23 million) order to support the 136 cars ordered in 2011.

The TEMU2000, which uses a tilting mechanism to maintain high speeds through the mountainous regions of eastern Taiwan, first entered passenger service in February 2013, transporting passengers between Changhua, Taipei and Hualien.

The introduction of the TEMU2000 has allowed Taiwan Railways to retire its ageing DR2700 diesel multiple units (DMU).
