Etihad Rail has signed an agreement with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for cooperation in planning and constructing the new 1,200-kilometre rail network.

Primarily, the agreement will see Etihad Rail and RTA work together to secure rail alignments and station locations.

Under the agreement, Etihad Rail will conduct technical studies and present plans to relevant authorities. In return, RTA will work with Etihad Rail to obtain permissions for any road works required for the project.

As well as improving passenger and freight transport links in the UAE, the Etihad Rail network will form part of the GCC rail line, connecting to Saudi Arabia and Oman.
