Auckland Transport has awarded contracts to two consortia to carry out preliminary works for the $2.86 billion City Rail Link (CRL).
The $3 million contracts represent the first phase of construction in the Downtown area.
A Downer NZ and Soletanche Bachy JV will complete work beneath Britomart Station and Queen Street to the Downtown Shopping Centre site. Shovels are due to break ground early next year.
A McConnell Dowell and Hawkins JV – named Connectus – will construct cut-and-cover tunnels along Albert St from Customs St to Wyndham St. Utility relocation works will start in October.
Main construction activity is scheduled for 2018/19. The 3.5-kilometre underground rail link should be completed by 2023.
That Britomart terminus certainly is an eyesore.
Britomart an eyesore? It’s widely seen as being impressive and attractive, and won’t be changed substantially by the CRL.
I’m sorry to hear they’re not going to take advantage of the opportunity to alter it.
Can you show me one positive opinion about its appearance?
have you been? that is really a silly thing to say…
Of course I’ve been through it. I was embarrassed as a New Zealander.
