The Frecciarossa 1000 – often described as Europe’s fastest mass produced high-speed train – has been approved for commercial service.

Operated by Trenitalia, the train will carry its first passengers between Milan and Rome on April 25.

The Frecciarossa 1000 will raise the maximum operating speed on Italy’s rail network to 360 km/h and reduce journey times between Rome and Milan to two hours and 20 minutes.

The train is actually capable of speeds of 400 km/h.

Bombardier has said that the Frecciarossa’s ‘advanced high acceleration enables the train to deliver excellent travel times, even on winding routes’.
