NS finalises Sprinter order

Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has confirmed a €280 million order with Stadler for 58 new Sprinter trains.

The order was first announced in December on top of a €500 million contract with CAF as part of the next-generation Sprinter train project (SNG).

Alstom and Bombardier had initially challenged the decision to directly award the contract to Stadler.

The new electric multiple units (EMUs), which will be ERTMS compatible, will be delivered from the end of 2016. The 58 units will be divided into 33 three-car and 25 four-car vehicles.
