Qatar Rail has enlisted the help of DBÂ International to advise on the operation of its new long distance and freight rail network.
DB International, the consultancy arm of Deutsche Bahn, has been appointed as the project’s “shadow operator”.
The role will ask DB to define the requirements for operation and maintenance, help create tender documents for the construction of the infrastructure and rolling stock, and create a regulatory framework for the line’s operation and maintenance.
DB will also advise on areas such as security, customer service and ticketing.
Phase 1 of Qatar Rail’s national rail network includes the design and construction of a 143-kilometre, non-electrified, slab track railway.
The line will connect the capital Doha with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and complete Qatar’s segment of the Middle East’s GCC railway project.
DB International has already helped Qatar Rail develop the concept for the Doha Metro system which is currently under construction and will connect the host stadiums for the 2022 World Cup.
