Dynamic testing of a new commuter train for the Swedish capital is now underway in Bro.

The first of 46 X60B electric multiple units (EMU), a third variant of Alstom’s Coradia Nordic train, was shipped to from Salzgitter, Germany, where they are being manufactured, to Sweden.

The first two X60B test vehicles travelled to Alstom’s Bro depot under their own power from Trelleborg where they will begin a six-month period of testing on the network around Enköping, VästerÃ¥s and Emmaboda.

Although almost identical to its predecessors – the X60 and X60A, the new model has been developed specifically to meet the safety challenges of operating through Stockholm’s City Line tunnel, which is due to open in 2017.

The six-kilometre tunnel will link Tomteboda with southern Stockholm.

From early 2016 – and subject to regulatory approval, the new units will begin to replace the X10 fleet, operating a reduced service for the first month.
