Officials in Paris have launched the start of preliminary works to extend the Line 11 metro from Mairie des Lilas to Rosny-Bois-Perrier.

Line 11 is being extended by 5.4 kilometres to Rosny-Bois-Perrier, providing connections to RER E, the extended T1 tramway and Line 15 of the Grand Paris Express.

By 2030, Paris will have four brand new metro lines (15, 16, 17 and 18) plus extensions to lines 11 and 14. The new Grand Paris Express orbital network will allow passengers to travel between Parisian suburbs without going through the city centre, significantly reducing existing journey times.

Parisian transport authority STIF is proposing to eventually extend the line beyond Rosny-Bois-Perrier to Noisy-Champs station where it will connect to RER A and the new Lines 15 and 16.

New five-car trains will also go into service on the line, which will require a new depot to be built at Rosny-sous-Bois to accommodate the longer vehicles.
