Bombardier and Wiener Linien have signed off an order for 119 Flexity trams for the Austrian capital.

The 34-metre trams will be manufactured in Vienna.

Carsten Bopp, head of light rail vehicles at Bombardier Transport Austria, said: “Our employees at the Vienna site are particularly proud that Bombardier trams will operate in their hometown.”

The contract includes the supply of the FlexCare maintenance management system and an option for 37 additional vehicles.

The new units will arrive in the city from 2018, replacing the current high-floor E2 trams.

The €562 million order includes maintenance of the new trams once delivery is complete in 2026.
