ÃŽle-de-France transport authority STIF has approved plans to procure 17 extra low-floor trams for the T3 tramway.

STIF has awarded Alstom a €63 million contract for a new fleet of 44-metre long trams.

Delivery of the new units will coincide with the opening of an extension of the line to Porte d’Asnieres in 2017.

The T3 tramway has been extended twice since opening in 2006, first to Porte de Vincennes and then to Porte de la Chapelle in 2012.

The new vehicles will allow a service frequency of 15 trams an hour on the network at peak times.
