Transport for London (TfL) has awarded Bombardier a £260 million contract for 45 new Overground trains.
The new stock, which will start to arrive on the network from 2018, will replace the Class 315 and Class 317 trains TfL inherited when it took over some of the West Anglia Main Line services out of Liverpool Street last month.
The contract is subject to a 10-day standstill period.
Thirty-one of the new trains will operate on the Overground West Anglia and Romford to Upminster routes, eight four-car trains will serve the existing route between Gospel Oak and Barking and another six will be used to “bolster services” on other routes.
Mike Brown MVO, managing director of London Rail, said: “These 45 new trains will significantly improve the comfort, reliability and overall quality of train services for our customers.
“Some of the trains we have inherited along the West Anglia route are over 30 years old and have not been in use for some time.
“We’re now working hard to overhaul these trains to make them more reliable until the new trains come into service from 2018.”
Around £2 million is being spent to modify the Class 315 and 317s to improve a run of poor reliability.
Suppose it be Class 378/3 for Liverpool Street-Enfield Town, Cheshunt and Chingford West Anglia Metro and Romford-Upminster branch line to replace the ageing Class 315 and Class 317 EMU trains.
And also 8 Class 378’s for Gospel Oak-Barking line which London Overground could operate new services from Barking to Richmond, Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction as well the London Overground extension to Barking Riverside with DLR to be extended to Dagenham Dock.
No, the Barking Riverside extension is a replacement for the DLR.
There’s no plans to extend the ‘Goblin’ from Gospel Oak just yet.
And it’s not known for certain whether the 45 trains will be a ‘Capitalstar’ or ‘Aventra’.
So the DLR will not be extended to Dagenham Dock as the London Overground extension to Barking Riverside is completed with 8tph between Barking Riverside and Gospel Oak.
So the DLR will be extended to Dagenham Dock as the London Overground extension to Barking Riverside is not planned.
Err, you got it right the first time, why have you changed your comment?
Was I right then I deleted it!. Bumber.
So in fact the London Overground to Barking Riverside will be extended preventing the DLR to be extended to Dagenham Dock which the DLR will not be extended to Dagenham Dock once the LO extension to Barking Riverside is completed.
They don’t prevent each other, basically the money isn’t there for DLR yet. So it won’t happen for a while.
Now I understand.
