The first Intercity 125 to sport the Virgin Trains East Coast livery went into passenger service in Edinburgh over the weekend.

Departing Edinburgh Waverley on Saturday morning, it is the first HST to carry passengers in Virgin colours since the operator took over the franchise with Stagecoach in March.

The Mark 3 fleet is being incrementally updated at Craigentinny depot by Stewart Signs. All 14 trains are set to be completed by October.

To date, 10 Intercity 225s have been wrapped in the new livery.

David Horne, Managing Director at Virgin Trains East Coast, said: “These trains carry millions of our customers each year – from Inverness and Aberdeen to London.

“Customers up and down the country will recognise those six letters instantly and they symbolise the start of a journey we are making to transform this great business by bringing the Virgin sparkle to passengers’ experience.”
