The TRALLI consortium, which consists of Pöyry, VR Track and YIT, has won the construction contract for Finland’s Tampere tramway.

Phase one of the route will link the city centre with the suburb of Hervanta. The plan is then to extend it to Tampere’s central hospital and the Lentävänniemi suburb.

The contractor will now work with the city council to develop more detailed designs before making a final decision on the construction of the new line in August 2016.

Announcing the award win, Pöyry said it expects the full 23.5-kilometre system to be completed by 2023.

Although the contract value wasn’t disclosed, the total cost of the infrastructure works has been estimated at €250 million.
