Africa’s first high-speed train has been unloaded at the Tanger-Med port near Tangier.

Alstom is supplying 12 high-speed trains, which are based on the TGV Duplex, for the new railway between Tangiers, Kenitra and Casablanca.

The new trains will be progressively delivered to operator ONCF between now and the end of 2016.

By the end of the year, the first train set will go into service on the conventional network before the high-speed line is completed in 2017.

High-speed services will operate on the 200-kilometre new railway between Tangiers and Kenitra before switching to the conventional network between Tangier and Casablanca.

The high-speed line, which will cut journey times between Tangier and Casablanca significantly, has a design speed of 350 km/h and an operating speed of 320 km/h.

    • It does not take much to stay ahead of America in the realm of high speed rail! Republicans are being bought off by road vehicle manufacturers and big oil giants to halt any progress with high speed rail. They are NOT concerned about the desires of the American people.
