Bombardier has released the first image of the new Aventra train it is building for London Overground.

Transport for London (TfL) awarded Bombardier a £260 million contract for 45 new four-car EMUs to replace the Class 315 and Class 317 trains TfL inherited when it took over some of the West Anglia Main Line services out of Liverpool Street.

The contract included a 35-year maintenance agreement, taking the total value to £358 million.

The new 20-metre vehicles will go into service in 2018 and will follow the arrival of Crossrail’s Aventra trains to the capital.

  1. So the new London Overground Bombardier Aventra trains could be classed as Class 368 or Class 372 as its to be built for London Overground: London Liverpool Street-Chingford, Cheshunt and Enfield Town West Anglia routes and London Overground: Romford-Upminster route in late 2016/early 2017. Plus it would be 4-Car and 5-Car trains except it be 4-Car to be used on the Romford-Upminster line.

  2. Good news but now London needs 5 or 6 vehicle units as with the present 4 vehicle unit, there is hardly any space at peak times or need to increase frequency which at present is every 20 minutes for Euston- London line.
