Australia’s rail industry has launched a joint research programme with several leading universities and research organisation CSIRO.

The Rail Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (RMCRC) has been set up with funding from the Federal Government which has been matched by the industry.

The RMCRC is supported by companies including Bombardier, Faiveley, CSR and Downer.

Paul Johnson, chairman of the RMCRC, said: “This launch comes at an important time when global supply chains are at a turning point and where innovation is allowing rail manufacturers to access new and emerging projects with local and international partners.

“There is little doubt that Australian rail manufacturers will reap the benefits of innovative funding and commercialisation models offered through the RMCRC.”
