Škoda Transportation has announced it has acquired a controlling stake in TransTech, which supplies double-deck carriages to Finnish State Railways (VR).

TransTech – Finland’s only domestic rolling stock provider – employs around 500 people and has an annual turnover in excess of CZK 2.5 billion (€92 million).

The company’s largest customer is VR to which it supplies push-pull, double-deck carriages. TransTech, which was founded in 1985, also has a framework contract to build low-floor trams for Helsinki.

Zdeněk Majer, vice president for sales at Škoda Transportation, said: “With this acquisition is Škoda Transportation becoming a key player in the field of railway and urban rail vehicles on the Finnish market.

“Equally significant is the fact that this trade significantly improves the starting position of Škoda business development all throughout Scandinavia.”
