UGL Unipart Rail to maintain Tangara train fleet

Transport for NSW has awarded UGL Unipart Rail a $131 million contract to upgrade Sydney’s Tangara passenger rail fleet.

The joint venture, which is 70 per cent owned by UGL, will carry out a major overhaul which will include installing upgraded train operating and door systems on 446 vehicles.

The modernisation programme, which will be completed in July 2018, will extend the life of the trains and bring them up to the standard of the new Warratah fleet.

The new operating and traction related systems will be provided by Mitsubishi Electric.
