Public showing for first refreshed ScotRail train

ScotRail has revealed the first of 40 trains being refurbished by Porterbrook as part of a £14 million modernisation project.

The work is being carried out at Springburn Depot – part of Knorr-Bremse RailServices.

As well improved seating, new lighting and new power sockets, the two-car Class 158 trains will be painted in ScotRail’s ‘Saltire’ livery.

The first completed train with leave the depot today (September 2) ready for the opening of the Borders Railway.

Between now and April 2018, the refurbished vehicles will be introduced into service at a rate of one train a month onto a number of routes out of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
