Thalys aiming to cut carbon emissions by 40%

Listen to this article

Thalys has become the first European train operator to sign up to an ambitious carbon reduction initiative and has committed to reducing its own emissions by 40 per cent.

The Science-Based Targets Program is a joint initiative between WWF, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Thalys has presented a number of measures it will be implementing to cut its CO2 emissions, including several around traction energy consumption. The operator plans to install energy meters in its trains and, from 2016, all drivers will be taught energy-saving driving techniques.
