RATP, the Paris Metro and RER operator, has ordered up to 12 new dual-mode electric locomotives from CAF.

The contract, which has been estimated at around €65 million, includes a firm order for six new locomotives.

The dual-mode, shunting units will have nickel-cadmium batteries onboard which will allow them to operate on electrified and non-electrified routes.

The locos will be built in France and production is due to begin in Bagnères de Bigorre next year. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2019, CAF has said.
