SNCF Logistics has bought a 45 per cent share in rail freight operator BLS Cargo.

The deal, which still needs to be approved by competition authorities, will leave BLS with a 52 per cent majority stake in the business. Ambrogio Group (IMT) will retain its 3 per cent shareholding.

BLS Cargo said the acquisition would “intensify collaboration in cross-border transport” and create opportunities for both organisations.

Sylvie Charles, general manager of the railfreight and intermodal business unit at SNCF Logistics, said: “We believe that the North/South corridor has great potential.”

She added: “The close collaboration between BLS Cargo and our Captrain companies will enable us to create international services optimally geared for customers on the North/South corridor.”
