Stadler has agreed orders totalling US $70 million with ABB for traction and power equipment for its trains.

ABB will supply integrated onboard power supplies and traction transformers for 80 Stadler trains bound for operators in Switzerland, Sweden and Hungary.

Stadler will install ABB traction converters and traction transformers on 11 new FLIRT EMUs for Schweizerische Südostbahn (SOB). These units will operate Voralpen-Express services between St Gallen and Lucerne.

ABB will supply roof-mounted traction converters with integrated onboard power supplies for trains ordered by two other Swiss operators: 14 trains for Regionalverkehr Bern-Solothurn (RBS) and 12 for Appenzeller Bahnen (AB).

In addition, ABB traction equipment will be installed on 33 double-deck KISS trains for Sweden’s Mälab and 10 FLIRT trains for Hungary’s GYSEV.

Ulrich Spiesshofer, ABB chief executive, said “We are honoured to be the partner of choice with Stadler, one of the world’s most innovative and successful rail industry companies, for many decades.

“We are particularly proud of the recent Stadler orders because they showcase the innovation power from two leading Swiss companies.”
