Zurich Public Transport (VBZ) has placed a CHF 300 million (€281 million) order with Bombardier for 70 Flexity trams.

The first of the seven-car vehicles will be delivered at the end of 2019.

The contract, which includes an option for a further 70 units, was signed on March 2. Confirmation of the order had been delayed by challenges brought by Stadler and Siemens against the procurement process.

Stéphane Wettstein, managing director of Bombardier Transportation (Switzerland) AG, said: “VBZ has opted for an innovative and highly-developed product. This decision strengthens a decades-old partnership, which will also serve all passengers in Zurich.”
