The first completed driving car for the Rhine-Ruhr-Express (RRX) has been unveiled during a visit by North Rhine-Westphalia’s Transport Minister, Michael Groschek.

Siemens is building 82 Desiro trains at its factory in Krefeld, Germany, for the new RRX network.

Once complete, the trains will undergo testing and commissioning in Wegberg. When in service, the new fleet will be maintained in Dortmund.

Deliveries are due to begin next year. An introductory service will begin by the end of 2018. When the infrastructure programme is completed, they will operate on the route between Cologne and Dortmund.
