Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iran discuss new freight corridor to link India and Europe

The national heads of rail for Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iran have met to discuss the new South-West Transport Corridor.

The project concerns the building of a freight railway corridor between the three countries from India to Europe to improve connectivity. Currently freight travelling by the sea takes between 30 and 40 days.

The director of Georgian Railways logistics and terminals, Levan Sulaberidze, said: “This project is of a special importance in the sense that, it is possible to connect the two big economies with each other using the shortest and fastest way.

“Respectively, today’s meeting is decisive, because exactly today have been determined those decisive actions, which finally have to launch this project.”

The meeting was held in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi.
