Rolling stock manufacturer Stadler has announced it is to build a vehicle maintenance depot in the Netherlands.

The announcement follows the award of a 15-year contract from Keolis’s subsidiary Syntus – which operates passenger train services in the country – to service the 16 Stadler Flirt EMUs it ordered in January last year. The contract begins in December 2017 and runs until 2032.

Stadler said that it is planning to build the new vehicle maintenance centre in Hengelo, in the province of Overijssel, where it will employ five members of staff.

The 16 train order includes nine three-car and seven four-car 1.5 kV Flirt multiple units, which can reach a top speed of 160km/h.

The vehicles are currently being tested between Amersfoort and Zwolle, and will operate on the line that runs between Zwolle and Kampen/Enschede from December.
