London Midland’s IT department has raised almost £2,000 by leaving their razors on the bathroom shelf for a month and growing moustaches – all in the name of charity.  The department took on the challenge of growing facial hair for a month for ‘Movember’ – the UK campaign for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

The 30 day long charitable act encourages men to raise awareness and support for the cancer charity by raising sponsorship money to grow a moustache.

Mark Benton, London Midland IT infrastructure manager, said: “I’m really pleased with the amount of money we managed to collect in just a month.  Raising £1,856 in such a short amount of time is brilliant!

“We did take some ribbing from our colleagues about our new look, as sporting a moustache was more flattering on some than it was on others, but it was all good fun and helped us to raise money for a worthwhile cause.  We appreciate the support we’ve received and would like to thank everyone who donated money to the charity.”

The money raised as a result of Movember is channelled into a number of innovative education, support, research and awareness initiatives.  The Movember challenge sees millions of men around the world growing a moustache in a month for various prostate cancer charities.
