Saudi Railway Organisation confirmed that contracts have been signed for the design and construction of HHR stations.

Their representative said that the signing of these contracts represents the Package 2 of the Phase I of HHR project which aims at constructing four passenger stations that will represent the “highest international standards and specifications.” The locations of the stations were also confirmed: Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah and King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh.

Two contracts were signed with Saudi Bin Laden Group for Makkah and Madinah. The other two contracts were awarded to Saudi Oger Ltd, one to build a passenger station in Jeddah and the other to build KAEC station in Rabigh.

SRO stated that the engineering designs of the stations have been created by London based Foster & Partners. Consideration has been made towards the need for the stations “to be consistent with the religious dimension of the Two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.”

Each station design contains an arrival and departures concourse and a mosque that can accommodate more than 600 people. They also each have a civil defense station, 10 terminals, short and long term car parking, shops, restaurants and cafes.

The stations have been linked with the public transport system and provided with pedestrian corridors for the light train stations intended to be implemented in these cities.

Regarding the fifth station, SRO reported that it will be located within the facilities of King Abdul Aziz international airport in Jeddah. It is within the project of development of the airport which is currently being implemented and has been agreed that its design is to be consistent with the other four stations.
