Wandsworth commuters to benefit from longer train platforms

Richard Tracey, London Assembley Member has welcomed news that Wandsworth commuters, who use the London Waterloo – Windsor & Eton Riverside Line, are to enjoy longer train platforms.

The platforms that will be lengthened to allow 10-carriage trains to stop there include:

  • Platforms 3 and 4 at Clapham Junction
  • Platforms 2 and 4 at Putney Station
  • All the platforms at Wandsworth Town
  • Platforms 2 and 3 at Queenstown Road

The improvement work by Network Rail is set to be completed by the end of the year and is not expected to cause any disruption to services while it takes place.

Commenting, London Assembly Member for Wandsworth and Merton, Mr Tracey said:

“This is great news for anyone who uses the trains in Wandsworth. We have some of the most congested trains in the country and so anything that goes towards improving the situation is fantastic.”

“However, these platform extensions still need to be matched by the introduction of more carriages on these lines. I am pushing hard for South West Trains and the Department for Transport to provide new carriages in time for the opening of the new platforms.

“I am also calling for trains leaving London Waterloo and travelling through Wandsworth to Windsor & Eton Riverside to be able to use the extended former Eurostar platforms.”
