The UK’s largest rail operator, Northern Rail, has this week launched its new online ticket sales facility, offering its customers the chance to purchase tickets for any rail journey in the UK on their website.

The new online service offers customers no hidden charges such as credit card, booking or postage fees and the opportunity to purchase tickets for all rail operators.

Northern’s system has been designed and implemented by Assertis.

Ian Bevan, Managing Director of Northern Rail, comments:

“We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers another way of purchasing tickets for not only our trains, but all trains that operate across the country.

“Assertis demonstrated a clear understanding of our requirements with this project and we are very proud of the system they have delivered.”

Alistair Lees, Managing Director of Assertis, comments:

“We are delighted to have been chosen to partner Northern Rail to provide their fist every online rail ticket sales service. We look forward to working with Northern over the coming years.”

  1. but still no e-tickets – come on – this is the 21st century!

I’ve just tried their system and postage is *not* free. They want to charge £7.50 for next-day delivery – no other postage option is offered.

The alternative is to collect the ticket from a station, the nearest of which that allows this is actually my destination!
