Union Pacific Railroad invests $31m in track improvements on Eastern Wyoming Line

Listen to this article

Union Pacific Railroad will continue improving the transportation infrastructure in Wyoming by investing nearly $31 million in the rail line that runs from Lusk to Shawnee.

Various projects over almost 37-miles of the line include removing and installing more than 28 miles of rail and nearly 75,000 concrete ties, as well as renewing the surfaces at seven road crossings.

Crews will also spread nearly 48,000 tonnes of rock ballast to help provide a more stable roadbed and replace three switches – the devices that move a train from one track to another.

Most of these projects begin September 2 and are scheduled to be completed by mid-November.

Union Pacific plans to invest approximately $3.3 billion in capital during 2011, which supports America’s current and future freight transportation needs and enhances the safety and efficiency of the railroad’s 32,000-mile network.
