Public praise for Exbury Gardens staff has continued to soar with visitor feedback showing high levels of appreciation for those on the railway, gate and buggy teams.

As Exbury celebrates a successful season, the Gardens and Steam Railway staff were presented with Welcome Host certificates by Gardens’ chairman Leopold de Rothschild and Tourism South East training manager Gill Heighington. The presentation took place in the Sundial Garden at Exbury.

Members of the railway, buggy and gate teams undertook the day-long Welcome Host course at the start of the season, trained in-house by Exbury’s commercial and marketing manager, Nigel Philpott, who had received his own training from Gill Heighington.

“Our staff are our greatest asset and this shows through feedback,” said Nigel.

“Visitors who buy our all-inclusive Exbury Experience ticket and meet our gate, buggy, railway and catering staff are full of praise for the level of knowledge and attitude of our teams.

“The staff genuinely enjoy their work and their environment, and communicate this to visitors. The Welcome Host course was an excellent means of enhancing their skills and increasing confidence.”

The Gardens, in the south-eastern corner of the New Forest, are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Steam Railway in 2011, with visitor numbers on the train soaring – reaching a record 60,000 this year.
