HCC JV wins contract for rail/road bridge over Brahmaputra River

The Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and its joint venture partners, DSD Brouckenbau GmbH, Germany and VNR Infrastructures has won a contract order to build a rail/road bridge over the Brahmaputra River in Assam, North Eastern State of India.

The deal is valued at Rs 987 crore and the superstructure order was given by the Northeast Frontier Railway, one of the Railway zones catering to the state.

In the Joint Venture Company, HCC share holds 51 per cent; DSD Brouckenbau GmbH holds 20 per cent and the balance of 29 per cent is owned by VNR Infrastructures.

Bogibeel rail/road bridge will be a double decked bridge having two railway tracks on the lower deck and a 3 lane road on the upper deck.

The road level will be 10.5 meters above the railway line.

The total length of the bridge will be 4.315 kms and it will be the fourth largest bridge in the country and the longest bridge over the mighty Brahmaputra River.

“This is one of the modern bridge and HCC along with its joint venture partners is committed to build a world class infrastructure for the Indian Railways.

“The work on this superstructure will be completed in 48 months,” Arun Karmabelkar, President and Whole Time Director, HCC said.

HCC has wide experience in transport sector; it has built nearly 300 roads and rail bridges in the country and has build 34 bridges in Iraq and 43 road bridges in Nepal.
